The stadium was one of the 12 hosting the 2006 FIFA World Cup. The stadium’s name comes from a contract with the local power supplier RheinEnergie AG.

The capacity is 50,000 visitors during club matches and 46,195 for international games, when there are no standing spectators allowed. The entire field is lit with a floodlight system. In the north grandstand there is a museum dedicated to 1. FC Köln.

Review Hospitality Package & Sport Ticket

Hospitality Package

Hospitality Package: VIP Lounge East

– Admission to VIP Lounge East
– Executive seating in East stand
– Buffet, icecream and all inclusive drinks package including Sekt
– Parking ticket

Hospitality Entrance

There are 2 VIP areas, one on the West stand and one on the East stand. The difference with respect to East versus West is that the West stand VIP area has a separate hospitality entrance whereas the East stand doesn’t really have one. This is a little bit strange as both sides have business seats and executive boxes.

It took quite a long time to get our tickets at the East gate as we stayed overnight and didn’t arrive by car. We were told that when entering the on-site car park the tickets were also handed out and now that we didn’t arrive by car they had to get the tickets from the car park before handing them over to us.

Restaurant

Included in the package is draft beer (the famous Kölsch), white wine, red wine soft drinks and coffee/tea. Next to this also Sekt is included which is a really nice addition.

There is one food station that served ‘’Bratwurst’’ and “Currywurst’’ as well as mixed salads and some small meatballs. In the far end of the lounge there was also a little food station where you could have “Flammkuchen’’ and at the other far end of the lounge there was an ice-cream parlor. As the lounge was quite full, waiting lines emerged at the food station(s). In our opinion for such a big lounge more variety in food as well as food stations is needed to accommodate the guests.

What was not up to par is that there was no food available after the match ended. All the food stations were emptied and cleaned except for the ice cream parlor.

Business lounge

The VIP lounge can be entered by climbing four outside staircases (rain protected). At the entrance there is a little reception area where guests are handed over their VIP bracelets. The lounge itself is very big and decorated for business type purposes. Both the executive boxes and the business seats share this lounge so there is a good mixture of various VIP guests. When we were there some tables were reserved tables and others were not, so it lead to confusion who had a reserved table and who not. In our opinion one could better deal with this in order to prevent confusion.

What is positive about the lounge is that it has pitch facing views across the halfway line. Another thing that is noticeable is that you can enter the lounge two hours before kick-off until two hours after the match has ended.

There are no man of the match presentations in the lounge.

Seating

Probably the thing that stands out in the package are the seats. They are literally located one footstep outside the lounge overlooking the halfway line and have some of the best design and comfort one could wish for. It supports your back very well and it is a pleasure to be watching the game from these seats.

Good to know

An excellent place to stay and very close to the stadium is Dorint Hotel Koln Junkersdorf. Adding to that, across the street of this hotel is a Biergarten called ‘’Bei mir zu Hause’’ which is one of the pubs the home supporters go to and where you can have some great pub food with German specialties.
