Tropicana Field (originally Florida Suncoast Dome and formerly Thunderdome) is a domed stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida that has been the home of Major League Baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays since the team’s inaugural season in 1998, when they were the Devil Rays. It is currently the only domed stadium in Major League Baseball that is not retractable. The most recognizable exterior feature of Tropicana Field is the slanted roof. It was designed at an angle to reduce the interior volume in order to reduce cooling costs, and to better protect the stadium from hurricanes. Just over the right-center field fence is the Rays Touch Tank. This 35-foot, 10,000 gallon tank is filled with cownose rays that were taken from Tampa Bay waters. Admission to the tank area is free for all fans attending home games, but there is a limit of 50 people in the area at any given time. Tropicana Field has a seating capacity of approximately 31,000.

Entrance for ticket holders in the possession of a Hancock Bank Club hospitality ticket / package is done via Gate 4, which is the VIP, suite holder and accessible entrance. Here also the allocated hospitality tickets can be collected from 5.10PM onwards (for matches with kick-off at 7.10PM, Will Call). The Will Call ticket collection is done smooth and swift. For Will Call tickets, please do not forget to bring your passport and the credit card from which you purchased your tickets beforehand! At Gate 4, you enter the impressive Tropicana Field, where hostesses escort you to the escalators where your journey to the Hancock Bank Club starts.

The package comes with an all-inclusive buffet plus unlimited bar service (beer, wine and soft drinks). The food counters are located throughout the Club, which we liked as it is never crowded or people lined up waiting for their food. The food itself is full of diversity and at each station chefs and waiting staff are present, high quality provided here. Do not feel bothered to ask as it will be cooked the way you like it. What we liked, was that there was a food counter only serving soft and hard cheeses to accompany your dessert, as well as a food counter only serving some very good hot dogs specialties. Nice!

The lounge also comes with a lot of dedicated waiting staff, who are very willing to provide you with a nice drink or assist you with everything you need.

The Club (including serving food and drinks) stays open during the entire duration of the Game (which lasts approximately 3 hours), so you can enter the Club any time you like.

The service at the Club ends approximately one hour after the final whistle.

The Hancock Bank Club is located on the Mezzanine Level of Tropicana Field, just below the suites. Here you can watch the game live from the first base line or from any of the dozens of flat screen televisions. It offers some very good views over the pitch. The Club opens 2 hours before the start of every game and has a seating capacity of approximately 100-150 persons. If possible try to get a table, or even better, a comfortable couch near the windows that overlook the pitch, truly spectacular.

Inside the Club do not expect man of the match presentations or any match day activities. There are flat screen televisions so you don’t miss anything of the game and team sheets are provided.

The atmosphere in the Club is lively and you can see that a lot of Rays fans are present, dressed up in jerseys from the Tampa Bay Rays. This makes it an informal and relaxed atmosphere. Also in the Club there are many Rays memorabilia, a nice touch and good fun to make some pictures.

The seating is excellent, padded, leather seats located right outside the Club. You watch the game from the first base line and very close to the Home Plate. What makes this seating extra nice, is that there is in-seat service, as part of the Hancock Bank Club hospitality package, giving you the opportunity to order some drinks from your chair and watch the game. The package does not come with a parking ticket (if you are not a season ticket holder) so do take that into account. Sportz.Guru decided to book an overnight stay in St. Petersburg.
